Stationery Lists – these are now active for your ordering for 2026. You will have received an email from our admin staff.
Student Resource Scheme – We are just in the final throes of reviewing this and will send to P&C for their approval next week for discussion and confirmation at the last meeting in Nov.
Centralising resources – we have just begun the process of centralising resources from the “PL” room to the library. With students bringing their own devices, we will spread the computer lab computers around the school, in particular for Prep-One classes. This space will become the professional library space for curriculum resources and teacher reference. The middle STEAM room will become our specialists office. And STEAM will live long in classrooms and other spaces closer to classrooms around the school.
This means that the current PL room can reframe its use so that it is both the offices for our Learning Enhancement Team (HODd Trish and team) as well as visiting staff and our learning enhancement teaching assistants, and student learning spaces.
Yr 6 Legacy Project – thank you to Cindy and Kristian who have stepped in to ensure that the yr 6 Legacy grand plan for 2025 becomes a reality, and to Mark and Karen for their practical assistance. Watch this space. Lights, greenery, new paint, new seating, whiteboards .. a combined effort!!! Before ….
Hobbiton Update. - Pottery Glazing – All of our students have now made a type of flower for the Visual Arts Cottage Garden installation. We are now at the very exciting stage of the students being able to glaze their creations. I can’t wait to see them come back full of colour and then be installed. See your teacher if you can come and assist with the glazing-painting process. We are most fortunate to have teacher and talented artist Chrissy leading us in this work.
Hobbiton Update. – More Mens’ shed woodwork – the guys have been busy creating more wooden items for our Hobbiton Themed area which we will be installing sometime soon.
I have been meeting with some local knitters groups to engage our community in creating more flowers for our fences. The supply is gradually building. More are welcome.
Day for Daniel – We certainly know how to do things well and full on at Ascot. Well done for the red turnout. Have a look at this lovely video with the kids about feeling safe ... a great stimulus for discussion.

We have been working with children on the key messages of this day
The central safety message of Day for Daniel is to empower children to Recognise, React and Report when they feel unsafe. Building students accurate vocabulary to express their emotions and describe their body signals is key to settling their limbic brain.
- Children own their bodies — meaning they have the right to feel safe, say no, and speak up for help.
- Body clues: kids need to understand the signals their bodies give when something doesn’t feel right (e.g., “sick” tummy, sweaty palms, racing heart).
- Safety matters online and offline: that includes in real-life places, social media, chats, apps
- Everyone has a role: parents, carers, educators, the community. It is not just up to the child.
- Wearing red on Day for Daniel symbolises remembering the legacy of Daniel Morcombe (who was wearing a red t-shirt when he went missing) and a shared commitment to child safety.
World Teacher’s Day – We appreciate your appreciation. It is rewarding for our staff that you can can see and feel just how much of their time, energy, heart and soul goes into improving the lives, skills and opportunities of your children. Thank you to our P&C and parents for noticing and valuing our staff. Thank you to our P&C for their meaningful words and amazing spread.
iPad information evening – thank you to the parents who attending the information evening. Many thanks to HODc Kristine Atkins for her thorough research and planning, and clear messages; to DP Kristian Crisp for his examples; to Ms Leisa Proctor for her reassuring input and Mr John Manning for his best practice examples of digital technologies use.
A reminder to Yr 3 and Yr 5 parents to please respond to the email indicating that your child is bringing along their own iPad as we wish to organise the custom stickers we are getting printed for each child’s device. We will be clearly labelling all devices with a sticker to indicate if BYOD or school owned. Have a look at these great designs by our own Mel Mc.
A reading to ponder –
I really like this article from the Switch for Schools Team (an app about naming emotions and choosing a behaviour-activity to dial it up or down). I think it speaks to us as educators in how we need to use and teach the use of digital devices carefully. – Square Eyes, Selfies and the Real story behind screens and mental health. A few quotes to here ponder but I encourage you to read the article – it is short and engaging:
“Jonathan Haidt’s book, The Anxious Generation, takes a dive into the actual data. While the book has its limitations (as all books do), it makes one compelling observation very clear: the problem isn’t screen time—it’s social comparison, selfie culture, and the always-on feedback loop of likes, comments, and followers”

Year 6 Market Day
Our Year 6 students showcased their creativity, teamwork, and entrepreneurial spirit at this year’s Market Day. It was fantastic to see such a wide range of products, from handmade crafts to clever creations , and to watch the design and production process come to life. Students showed real care and commitment as they learned about running their own business, managing costs, and engaging customers. The energy across the day was outstanding, and it was clear that valuable learning took place at every stall. All funds raised will go towards the Year 6 Legacy Project, leaving a lasting mark on our school. Thank you to the year 6 teachers for their efforts running such a successful event.
Gala Day
Gala Day for 2025 has officially wrapped up- no rain days in 2025!! It was great to see Ascot students enjoying their chosen sports, learning new skills, and expanding their friendship groups. A huge thank you to all the teachers who supervised and supported students throughout the day, and an especially big thank you to Mrs Hunter for her hard work and organisation in making it such a great experience for the students.
Senior Leadership 2026
The senior leadership process is officially underway. Our Year 5 students have received their Leadership Passports and have begun working through activities that build their confidence, teamwork, and service to our school. School Captains and House Captains will be announced at the end of 2025, with all other leadership positions revealed early in 2026. Good luck to all our aspiring leaders — we can’t wait to see you step up and shine.
2026 Senior Shirt Design Winner
Congratulations to Charlotte B from 5A, whose design has been selected as the 2026 Senior Shirt. Charlotte’s design captured the spirit and pride of Ascot beautifully. Shirt sizing and ordering will take place in the coming weeks, with the new senior shirts ready for students at the start of 2026. Well done, Charlotte.

Prep 2026 - Coming our way
Over the past two terms we have met our 2026 Prep students. They are ready and raring to go. Our Prep Orientation will be happening in two weeks. A special occasion for families and their little people to commence their school journey. We looking forward to welcoming you to the Ascot family.
STEAM Week
This past week we have celebrated State Education Week, an opportunity to promote the great work being done in Queensland State Schools.
We celebrated with our annual STEAM Week. At Ascot, we have a strong commitment to nurturing young inquiring minds, igniting their curiosity, and fostering a love for STEAM (Science, Technology/Engineering, Maths and the Arts).
Throughout the week, Street Science captivated and engaged our Prep to Year 6 students with interactive, hands-on workshops.
Classroom teachers also led their own STEAM-inspired activities throughout the week. Year 4/5 students explored problem-solving by building circuits using lemons, alligator clips, and lightbulbs. Year 1/2 played interactive games to investigate push and pull forces, while 1C took their mathematics learning outdoors for some hands-on exploration.
Special thanks to Mrs Clements, Ms Whitehouse, Miss Thomas and Miss Dutton who led some wonderful lunch time activities.
The science experiments and maths competitions proved very popular this week. Thank you to all the students who took part and proudly shared their hard work with their classes. Certificates are coming your way! Well done all.
Year 6 Market Stall
What an incredible celebration of learning from our Year 6 students and teachers at their annual Market Day during STEAM Week.
Once again, our students demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial skills. Over the semester, they collaborated with Ascot’s learning partner, Future Anything. The Market Stall was a culmination of their inquiry unit, with curriculum connections of English (persuasive devices used in advertising), HASS (Economics and Business), Design Technologies, Media Arts, and Visual Arts. Students sucessfully developed a business plan and created marketable products using repurposed and sustainable materials.
We welcomed a number of visitors to our market day, including community members and family. Many praised our students for their professionalism and character. The students were warm and attentive to our buyers, and they collaborated exceptionally well as a team to bring their ideas to life.
Thank you to our teachers Ms Ra Green, Mrs Demi Sibly, Ms Emily McClure and also to Mr Nick Marsh, for supporting our budding entrepreneurs of the future. Congratulations students for your enthusiasm and hard work.

Sporting Achievements
Results at the State Track and Field Championships
Congratulations to our talented athletes who recently represented our school at the State Track and Field Championships in Townsville. Each of these students showed incredible commitment, determination, and school spirit while competing against some of Queensland’s best.
Taylah – 7th place in the 100m Ava – 17th in the 1500m and 18th in the 800m Boyd – 6th in the Tetrathlon and 11th in High Jump Charlton Dunlop – 19th in Shot Put Katherine – 5th in the 800m and an outstanding 3rd place in the 1500m
A special mention to Katherine, who has now qualified to compete at the National Championships. We wish her the very best of luck as she prepares for the next stage of competition.
Well done to all our athletes for their hard work, perseverance, and success at such a high level of competition.
Evie and Halle – Touch Football Representatives
Congratulations to Evie and Halle (Year 5), who have been selected to represent Australia in the upcoming All Nations Touch Competition this December!
This incredible opportunity comes off the back of their strong performances at Nationals earlier this month. Their dedication and skill on the field have truly paid off.
What a fantastic way to finish an already busy and successful year — well done, Evie and Halle! We’re so proud of your achievements!
Gala Days
Gala Sport Wrap Up
Our final Gala Days for the year saw our Year 5 and 6 students take to the fields and for Touch Football, AFL, Cricket, and Baseball under some very hot conditions! Despite the heat, our students showed incredible determination, teamwork, and resilience, representing Ascot State School with pride.
Across all sports, it was wonderful to see students supporting one another, demonstrating fair play, and putting into practice the skills they’ve developed throughout the year. There were some fantastic results on the scoreboard, but even more impressive were the moments of sportsmanship, encouragement, and teamwork that stood out across every team.
A special thank you to parent Ed Turley for volunteering his time to assist with the Girls Touch Football and for umpiring throughout the day — your help was greatly appreciated!
Thank you to staff for your support, and to the students for giving their best effort and showing such great Ascot spirit. What a wonderful way to finish the year of Gala Sport!
Sport Development
Yr 4 students are now involved in Gala Sport preparation sessions on a Thursday afternoon. Over 4 weeks students will gain a taste of some Gala Day sports to develop skills and understandings ready for next year.
Swimming Carnivals
Swimming Carnival Date Claimer: We are working hard at the moment to prepare children for their swimming carnival events in week 9, with the Yr 4 – 6 carnival taking place on Wednesday December 3 and the Prep – yr 3 mini carnivals on Thursday December 4. If weather forces postponement the carnivals will take place the following week with P- 3 on Monday December 8 and yr 4-6 carnival on Wednesday December 10.
Yr 4 – 6 Swimming Carnival (December 3)
Soon in class lessons children will nominate for the events and distances they want to swim. If children are interested in trying for age champion or hope to compete in the school team at the 2026 City District carnival they must compete in the 50 metre events, otherwise the 25 metre events might be more suitable.

9:00 – 9:40 Preps – swim their race across the pool
9:45 – 11:00 Yr 1 – 25m/half length freestyle and backstroke

Author Visit!
P&C supports the Ascot Opti-Minds team to go to the Regional and State Finals
On the weekend of 18th – 19th October, Olive, Franki, Tilly, Olivia, Ilina, Noor and Aadhya, Ascot’s Opti-Mind team “Junior Intelli-bots” competed in the Opti-Minds State Finals at the University of Queensland.
It was a weekend of excitement and pleasure. The theme for the competition was “Integrity”. Integrity means doing the right thing when no one is watching.
On Saturday, first we had an opening ceremony for the 590 students from all across Queensland. Then our Opti-Minds team competed in a 3-hour unknown challenge that involved writing and preparing a play, including making props, about an Integrity Statue being stolen. We all had to work together to come up with a solution. We wrote an excellent play that we presented to the judges, our families and the other teams. We all had such a blast when we performed!
When all of the teams finished their performances, we headed to the Opti-Minds Disco and BBQ for dinner! There were songs, laughter and loads of great dancing. It was one wild and crazy disco. We then went home to bed so we could be ready for the next day.
Our Sunday morning, we started early again, setting up for the Youth Forum. We had to design something that would improve the world and present it in a market stall. We thought that there was too much rubbish in the world, and we wanted to keep our world and school a clean and healthy environment. Another reason why we chose rubbish is because the amount of bin chickens (Ibis's) that are in our school is a huge number and they always poop everywhere. We invented a system to trade an ice cream container of rubbish for a treat. And we wrote a funny song called “Bin Chicken”.
Sunday was an exciting day for all of us, and it was so much fun seeing all the other stalls from different schools.
Even though we didn't get a place, our team gave it a go and showed loads of integrity throughout the weekend.
We want to thank our generous P&C who supported our entries to the Regional and State Finals.
Opti-Minds was so much fun, and we recommend others get involved in this amazing experience next year.

A very special thank you goes to Stef, Suzi, Kura, Bec and the P&C team for their hard work, organisation and dedication in making this event such a success. The P&C had the pleasure of hosting all staff for breakfast on Friday morning to celebrate World Teachers' Day.
On behalf of the entire school community, we would like to thank each and every staff member for the contribution they make to ensuring our children have the best educational experience and learning environments at Ascot. We are very lucky to have you!
This is a great (and easy) way to get involved and meet other parents from within the school community and the kids love seeing you there too!
We currently have 1 x Monday volunteer position available so if you’re interested in helping us out once a month for a two hour shift from 9.30 - 11.30am please reach out as we’d love to have you join the team.
Alternatively if you’re keen to help out but don’t have the time to volunteer during the day, why not become a Home baker!
As a Home Baker, you’d be rostered once a month on a day that suits you best to drop off some baked goods for us to sell. Goods can be delivered before school to the Tuckshop anytime between 6am – 9am. Popular items include Cupcakes, Choc Chip Cookies, Anzacs, Slices etc and you don’t need to be Nigella either as packet mixes are fine.

PAID TUCKSHOP CONVENOR POSITION AVAILABLE
With our continued growth we are looking for another friendly team player to join our wonderful group of Tuckshop Convenors.
We currently have a role available a couple of days a week from 6am - 2.30pm during school term time with the potential for additional hours/days for the right candidate.
Although no experience is necessary, the ideal candidate would need to be reliable, organised, tidy, a self starter and love working in a collaborative team environment with volunteers from our school community. The successful candidate would need to complete a health and hygiene course online (takes less than an hour) and you would also need to have a Blue Card.

COME ALONG & JOIN THE FUN!
Ascot Swim Club is a junior amateur swim club for 4-12 year olds which provides a fun and supportive environment where each individual swimmer is encouraged to try their best and focus on improving their own times.
Swim Club is held most Friday nights throughout Term 4 and Term 1 from 5pm. For new families to Ascot Swim Club, once you have completed the membership form you can then come along and try out a meet night before your membership fees are due which is the perfect option for those wanting to give it a go.
Our club provides the perfect balance of competitive swimming and an enjoyable social wind down at the end of the week, so come along and join in the fun!
